He has more than 30 years of experience in intercultural education and has been president of multiple colleges and nonprofits throughout the course of his career.
Online, January 7, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Claremont Lincoln University is pleased to announce that Dr. Frank Ellsworth, a longtime university administrator, professor, and advocate for intercultural education, has been appointed to the university Board of Directors.
Dr. Ellsworth has been at the forefront of intercultural education throughout his career. He initiated one of the earliest culture-based language learning programs in 1979 while serving as President of Pitzer College, the youngest president in the history of the Claremont Colleges. He has also served as Chairman of the Strategic Planning and Executive Committees of the Japanese American National Museum (where he orchestrated an $80 million fundraising campaign); President of The Japan Society in New York City; Interim President of Art Center College of Design in Pasadena; President and CEO of Give2Asia; and Interim President of Sofia University in Palo Alto.
He was also President and CEO of Endowments, a series of mutual funds offered exclusively to nonprofits with assets managed by Capital Research and Management Company, one of the Capital Group Companies.
He presently serves as a trustee of The Paul Taylor Dance Foundation; trustee, Vice Chairman, and Chairman elect of the Japan Society of Northern California; trustee of Give2Asia; and Chairman of the Board of Global Partners Institute in Vancouver.

Dr. Ellsworth's academic career combines teaching and administrative management at institutions throughout the United States, including Penn State, Sarah Lawrence College, the University of Chicago and The Claremont Colleges. He received his Ph.D. in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago. He has honorary degrees from Southwestern University of School of Law, Pepperdine University, and The Art Center College of Design.
Dr. Ellsworth has co-edited two highly regarded books on foundation management and issues: From Grantmaker to Leader: Emerging Strategies for 21st Century Foundations and Foundation Management: Innovation and Responsibility at Home and Abroad. He has published and lectured on topics ranging from legal history, classical and Eastern philosophy, liberation theology, art history, fiduciary responsibilities for nonprofits and the joys of print collecting. His current research is on 1960s pop art in Japan and the United States.
